The bigger the cutter/higher amperage, the more air you need for the most part. I run a 5hp compressor on a 140 gallon tank and never a problem. Took my plasma to a buddies house with 3 hp 20 or 25 gallon craftsman compressor and was lucky to cut for a minute and had to wait on compressor while cutting 1/2" plate.
