Control Group. A standard IANB was administered to the 52 patients in the control group using 3.6 mL 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. Objectives: This study evaluated the intensity and duration of postoperative pain after the removal of root canal filling material in retreatment procedures of upper incisor teeth with chronic apical periodontitis, using different techniques. Results. All patients reported profound lip numbness. The overall success rate for the IANBs was 43.3%. In the cryotherapy group, the success rate of the IANBs was 55.8%, whereas in the control group it was 30.8% (P < .05).
