Reviewed July 6, 2013. If you are planning to visit Berlin, you MUST visit Tropical Island. It is just 63K east of Berlin. It feels and looks like Bali or Thailand. It is absolutely amazing. There are tropical birds flying around, sandy beaches, palm trees and gardens full of tropical plants. It is so easy to get lost in the beauty of the island.

Visiting Tropical Island, you get much more than just a couple of swimming pools and some sand between your toes. Tropical Island s Resort is a water park 50 kilometers from the southern border of Berlin, Germany. Considered the largest indoor water park in the world, it was built in a former East German airship hangar. As we weren't going to travel to the beach this summer, we looked for an option that would be interesting, both to visit and to enjoy the swimming pool and, perhaps, the German heat.

How to get there. Tropical Islands water park is located around 60 km from Berlin city and is easily reached by public transport or rental car. We went there by train from Alexanderplatz by regional train (direction Cottbus). In order to get there, you need to purchase Berlin-Brandenburg ticket (just the Berlin ABC ticket is not enough).
