Breath of Fire 1 Review [SNES] YouTube

Breath of Fire 3 and 4 have a lot more charm and personality than Breath of Fire 1 and 2. BoF2 was really grindy and had a lot of weird translation hiccups that routinely got in the way. BoF1 was just really basic. Both of the PSX games had pretty stellar casts and music. BoF3 hands down made the most out of it's dragon mechanics.

Like Breath of Fire 2, there's a lot of moments where you're forced on a random tangent instead of progressing the story naturally, which kills the pacing. There's some charming moments, but the writing is definitely a lot stronger in the sequel. The combat is pretty basic and easy. A lot of encounters are just really toothless.

Breath of Fire 1, for all of it's flaws, is a good game, it's good for taking up any free time you have to invest into it. The story is pretty simple for a JRPG that came out in 1993/1994 (as were a lot of RPGs from that time). Breath of Fire 2 is pretty good, it has a better story and slightly better graphics and even better characters.

Absolutely loved Breath of Fire 1 back in the day when I had it on SNES. I picked up an Analogue Pocket and GBA copies of BoF 1 & 2. I was going to play BoF 2 first since I'd already beaten BoF 1 as a kid. I wanted to know if the GBA version is at all lackluster compared to the SNES counterpart.
