There are a few rules for creating transparent materials. First, Flatten Layers (in the Render palette) must be turned off to enable transparent effects.. To select a color, you can click once to choose the Main color, or click this picker and drag to any other part of the ZBrush canvas or interface. Material Texture 1 - 3.

If you open Material->Modifiers, you'll see the transparency slider…This increases or decreases the transparency of the material, and like I say, any material can be made transparent by adjusting this slider.. You could also check the ZBrush Picnic ZScript tutorial (included with the ZBrush distribution) for a method using 3D copy.

Make sure transparency is turned on in your render properties then make a material with some transparency slider slid up in the material palette and assign it to your part you want transparent, make sure that part is it's own subtool. Use MRGB set to 100 and use color/fill to fill that subtool with that material.

To create a transparent part in ZBrush, start by creating your model as usual. Then, go to the Materials menu and select Transparent from the list of available materials.
