During the winter months, the lake measures just 1-2 meters deep, but as the snow on the surrounding mountains melts, the basin that contains the lake begins to flood. Between mid-May and June, the Grüner See reaches depths of up to 12 meters, submerging the adjacent parkland.

Austria?!?! We spent two days diving Grüner See (Green Lake) in the Styria. This lake is formed in the summer months when the snow melts from the mountains and collectes there. There is enough water (up to 10m) around May-June when it becomes a bizarre attraction for keen divers. Unfortunately, diving here has been prohibited since Januray 2016.
