Das Drommedaris ist das bekannteste Gebäude der niederländischen Stadt Enkhuizen . Es diente lange Zeit als Wehrtor und beschützte den Eingang des Hafens. Der Bau aus dem Jahr 1540 mit seinen Schießscharten diente der Bewachung des Hafens und wurde als Wachkaserne und Gefängnis genutzt. Um 1648 erfolgte eine Erhöhung auf die heutige Höhe.

De Drommedaris is de zuidelijke toegangspoort van de stad Enkhuizen. Het is het bekendste gebouw in Enkhuizen. Ontstaan Het gebouw is neergezet als verdedigingswerk bij de ingang van de Oude Haven, en bevond zich oorspronkelijk op de Westfriese Omringdijk; deze liep vanuit het noorden via de Breedstraat verder langs de Zuiderdijk.

Dan is de Drommedaris, of de Ketenpoort, nog een van de stadspoorten en verdedigingstorens van Enkhuizen. De naam dromedaris stamt al uit de begintijd. Hoe de tweede 'm' in de naam is geslopen, is niet duidelijk. In 1649 krijgt de toren haar huidige hoogte, waarschijnlijk om plaats te maken voor het inmiddels beroemde carillon.

The building was erected as a defense work at the entrance to the Old Harbor, and was originally on the Westfriesian dike; this ran from the north; over the Breedstraat along to the Zuiderdijk.
