La casa di Nettuno e Anfitrite fu colpita insieme al resto dell'antica città di Ercolano dalla tremenda eruzione del Vesuvio del 79 d.C.. Però, Ercolano a differenza di Pompei, non venne investita dalla pioggia di cenere e lapilli. Ma solo da un potentissimo flusso piroclastico e da una colata di fango che coprì completamente Ercolano con oltre 20 metri di materiale vulcanico.
