A Praça da Batalha foi urbanizada em 1861, sendo que o seu nome provém de uma batalha, travada no século X, entre os habitantes do Porto e os Sarracenos de Almançor, que terminou com a derrota dos portuenses e o consequente arrasamento da povoação.
