Gathering of the Vibes (often abbreviated as GOTV) was an annual four-day music, camping and arts festival that celebrated the Grateful Dead and showcased a diverse variety of music. The Gathering of the Vibes was organized in 1996 by local businessman, Ken Hays, as a tribute to honor the Grateful Dead's, Jerry Garcia, who died the previous year. Peace, Love, understanding and the spirit of the Grateful Dead community was a driving force, according to Hays, when he organized his first concert at SUNY Purchase, in Purchase.

The annual music festival known as the Gathering of the Vibes (GOTV) grew out of the need by many to fill the void that was left due to the death of Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead in 1995. Initially named Deadhead Heaven—A Gathering of the Tribe in 1996, the festival name was changed the following year to the "Gathering of the Vibes.".

The following year, we changed the name to Gathering of the Vibes. The event doubled in size and that's how it began. Children's Corner From the beginning, we've encouraged parents to bring kids. In 2007, Gathering of the Vibes came home to Seaside Park, re-kindling the magic of the unforgettable 1999 & 2000 shows. After the 20th Anniversary Vibes in 2015, it was decided to take a break and regroup after 20 music-filled summers; using the time to plan ahead and envision what the coming years should look like.
