1. Re: Olbia or Cargliari. Your choice may be dependanat on price as July is the peak month and both areas will be busy to cities of Olbia & Cagliari. Sardinia is a diverse & 'wild' island, July & August are the busiest & expensive months for the islands. Olbia as a city is not the ideal tourist destination, majority use it as an arrival city.

Olbia is the airport for the Costa Smeralda, e.g. Porto Cervo - which doesn't really get going till July and August. Cagliari is of course the capital city of the island, so offers more "culture" but it isn't a beach resort, though not far from beaches.
