Elle faisait partie autrefois de l'ancienne province du Rouergue et fait aujourd'hui partie de l'association des Plus Beaux Villages de France .

The Château de Belcastel is a unique blend of art and architecture. THE chateau prior to renovation. The history of this medieval fortress dates back to the 8th century, when the villagers of Belcastel built a medieval chapel to worship in. The chapel continued to be extended over the next two centuries, and thus this castle in Aveyron was.

This castle, was unoccupied for years. It was reduced to ruins when Fernand Pouillon, a famous French architect, fell in love with those stones. He bought the castle and decided to rebuild it. For eight years, the inhabitants of Belcastel have seen the castle rise up from the ashes like the phoenix. The result is astonishing.

The village of Belcastel, listed as one of the ' most beautiful villages of France ', is about 20 kilometres west of Rodez in the north-west of the Aveyron department. The story of the rebirth of Belcastel is interesting. During the 1970's the castle was acquired and meticulously restored. This then motivated the rest of Belcastel to beautify.

Le château de Belcastel est une forteresse du XIème siècle. Abandonné au XVIIème siècle, il fut restauré dans les années 1970 par l'architecte-urbaniste Fernand Pouillon.
