Pablo Gargallo (1881-1934) Gargallo was born in Maella in Zaragoza which is in the Spanish region of Aragon, but he moved with his family to Barcelona in 1888. His father owned an ironworks in which Gargallo learned how to forge the metal. Pablo Gargallo began to study in Barcelona, training in the arts and working for Eusebi Arnau in his workshop.

Pablo Gargallo (Spanish, 1881-1934) was one of the most significant Spanish avant-garde artists of his time, and among the first artists to work with iron. He developed a Cubist-inspired style of sculpture—based on the creation of three-dimensional objects from pieces of metal, paper, or cardboard—in which only part of the subject was represented.

Pablo Gargallo was a Spanish avant-garde artist, best known for his figurative Cubist sculptures, cast from steel, bronze, and marble. Gargallo often made three-dimensional forms from flat sheets of cardboard, paper, and metal. Three of the most famous examples of this technique titled Masque de Greta Garbo à la mèche were based on the Swedish-born Hollywood star Greta Garbo.
