Well, Aiko was holded in captivity by her zealous mother, and couldn't see what life has to offer. Her only dream when she was little was to escape and be free. Kagoshima was that mystical place of freedom, and she wanted to go there. On the other hand she was very weak-willed person, so Punpun could manipulate/make her do anything he wanted.

Wh111p • 2 yr. ago The latter. JohnnyBizarrAdventur • 2 yr. ago In my opinion she did this to escape from Punpun's abusive relationship. What saved him was not her death, it was when he stabbed himself in the eye and forgot about her (or at least tried) to live a normal life. That s why I don t think she did this to save him.

Updated Mar 27, 2023 To call Goodnight Punpun just a "happy" or "sad" story would be a disservice to the nuanced tale weaved by Inio Asano. I figure Aiko committed suicide for a number of reasons, the main one being that she probably realized that her relationship with Punpun was destructive and based on mutual obsession, and since she has problems making relationships with others she felt that she had nothing to live for and just wanted to escape the pain. amdawae • 2 yr. ago

Goodnight Punpun (Oyasumi Punpun) is a supremely bizarre Seinen manga by Inio Asano about the title character, Punpun. Punpun is a young, innocent, and naive child, who, in some kind of strange stylistic choice, is depicted as a simplistic sketch of a bird despite everyone outside of his family looking like a normal human..
