Filha do fazendeiro José Estanislau do Amaral e de Lydia Dias de Aguiar do Amaral, passou a infância nas fazendas de seu pai. Estudou em São Paulo, no Colégio Sion e depois em Barcelona, na Espanha, onde fez seu primeiro quadro.
