The Federal and State governments have now committed a total of $500million to a new Richmond bridge and bypass across the Hawkesbury River, which is expected to cut travel time by 12 minutes and create about 850 jobs. The money _ $400million from the Federal Government and $100million from the State Government - is double the original commitment.

The proposed route for the $500 million duplication bridge over the Hawkesbury River at Richmond has been set in stone, with the alternative "Purple Route" now resigned to history despite no Environmental Impact Study (EIS) being completed. Transport for NSW has confirmed that the new Richmond bridge will be built about 50m downstream of the existing bridge offering only 1 in 20 year flood.

In April 2019, the Australian Government committed $200 million to deliver the Richmond Bridge duplication and traffic improvements on an 80:20 funding basis with an expected commitment of $50 million from the NSW Government. In September 2019, the NSW Government confirmed this funding commitment bringing the total project funding at the time.
