The Frenchmans Cap trailhead and car park is located on the Lyell Highway (A10) 55km before Queenstown, roughly 200km from Hobart. From Hobart, head north on Brooker Avenue, taking the first exit just before the Bridgewater Bridge onto the Lyell Highway, continue along for 170km.

The hike to Frenchmans Cap leaves from a spacious car park branching off Lyell Hwy (A10), just 25 minutes east of Lake St Clair where another of our favourite multi-day walks begins - Mt Geryon and The Labyrinth. Frenchmans Cap Car Park offers a shelter with some information on the area but little else.

We take four days to best appreciate the area, attempt a climb to the mountain summit (weather dependent) and explore the surrounding ridges and lakes.
